Meet Dana Stockton
Licensed Massage Therapist

Dana Stockton recently moved to the Dayton area with her husband and two children in the summer of 2010 from Columbia Missouri. There, she received her massage license from the Massage Therapy Institute of Missouri, and received her massage certificate from the NCBTMB-national bodywork &massage board.

Through her years of massage experience, Dana has developed a unique style that combines several types of modalities including: myo-facial release, reflexology along with more common types such as relaxation and deep tissue into one session. Combining several modalities allows for you to feel great not only during your massage session but days after you’ve received your massage.

Massage Services

Swedish Massage-also known as relaxation massage and is one of the most common types of massage. Therapists combine long flowing strokes along with gentle kneading and circular movements on the outer layer of the skin and muscles. This is ideal if you just want to relax, haven’t had massage for a long time or are new to receiving massage.

Deep tissue massage -uses a combination of relaxation strokes, kneading and percussion to address deeper layers of muscle as well as connective tissue. This type is beneficial for anyone who suffers from tight or over strained muscles, posture issues or those recovering from an injury by loosening knots in the muscles and breaking up adhesions that may have formed in the muscles and tissue surrounding them. Many are afraid to receive deep tissue because they think it will hurt. Pain may occur occasionally but good communication with your therapist will allow them to adjust the pressure making it more tolerable while still being effective and providing overall relaxing massage.

Sports massage- typically designed for individuals who are physically active. This modality is good those who are professional athletes, exercises frequently or an individual whose job requires a lot of activity such as construction workers.  It combines relaxation, deep tissue as well as facilitated stretching to loosen muscles, break up adhesions and allow for greater flexibility with less pain.

30 minute massage-done on the massage table, this massage is used to focus on problem areas only. It combines relaxation, deep tissue and sports modalities all in one to target specific areas such as a sore or stiff back, headache, neck pain or any other area that is causing limitations or pain.

Chair massage- quick massage that ranges from 5-20 minutes. Chair massage is done in a special massage chair and you remain fully clothed. It’s used to target the back, neck, head and arms. This is great for a pick-me-up massage when you only have a little bit of time. You can also provide on-site chair massage where the therapist comes to you for guests at a party or to show appreciation to your employees.

Is Massage Right for You?

~Your health and safety are our highest priority~

Massage to many is considered harmless but in some cases it can cause more harm than good. Below is a short list of some common conditions that are either locally contraindicated meaning only the area involved needs to be avoided or contraindicates massage completely (meaning massage is not recommended  or not without doctors consent). If you suffer from any of these or other conditions not listed, talk to your doctor about the safety of getting a massage.

Local Contraindications

Not Recommended

•Varicose veins: Massage directly over varicose veins can worsen the problem. However, if you apply a very light massage next to the problem, always in a direction toward the heart, it can be very beneficial.

Infectious diseases: Massage is not a good idea for someone coming down with the flu or diphtheria, for example, and to make matters worse, you expose yourself to the virus as well.

Broken bones: Stay away from an area of mending bones. A little light massage to the surrounding areas, though, can improve circulation and be quite helpful.

Osteoporosis: Elderly people with a severe stoop to the shoulders often have this condition, in which bones become porous, brittle, and fragile. Massage may be too intense for this condition.

Skin problems: You should avoid anything that looks like it shouldn't be there, such as rashes, wounds, bruises, burns, boils, and blisters, for example. Usually these problems are local, so you can still massage in other areas.

Fever: When you have a fever, your body is trying to isolate and expel an invader of some kind. Massage increases overall circulation and could therefore work against your body's natural defenses.

Inflammation: Massage can further irritate an area of inflammation, and is contraindicated in the area that’s inflamed. Massage can still be done everywhere else.

Other conditions and diseases: Diabetes, asthma, and other serious conditions each has its own precautions, and you should seek a doctor's opinion before massage.

High blood pressure: High blood pressure means excessive pressure against blood vessel walls. Massage affects the blood vessels, and so people with high blood pressure or a heart condition should receive light, sedating massages, if at all.

Cancer: Cancer can spread through the lymphatic system, and because massage increases lymphatic circulation, it may potentially spread the disease as well. Simple, caring touch is fine, but massage strokes that stimulate circulation are not. Always check with a doctor first.

HIV infection: HIV infection is not contraindicated unless you’re suffering from the later stages of AIDS.  Loving, soothing contact is extremely important for people at any stage of infection, but in the case of any visible rashes, sores, lesions, or swelling, massage is not recommended.
